About the studio
Prism is a small photography studio that works slowly, on purpose — and makes pictures built to be lived with.
We were founded in 2014 on a simple bias: fewer, better frames. We shoot portrait, editorial and commercial work, but the method never changes — patience, available light wherever we can get it, and a real respect for the people and objects in front of the lens.
Lead photographer
Mara Okafor
Mara trained as a documentary photographer before moving between editorial and the studio. Her work has run in Field Quarterly, Atlas Press and The Lantern, and been exhibited twice in group shows on the coast. She prints everything herself.
The studio runs lean — Mara, a producer and a rotating circle of assistants — which keeps the work close and the turnaround honest. We take a small number of commissions a year so each one gets the time it deserves.
